Floating on Martha Brae River was such a great time! It was the only excursion we did during this trip to Jamaica. I really wanted to relax and enjoy the resort, Hilton Rose Hall, which we did. We were able to book the excursion through the resort the day before going for $147 for the two of us. The raft is optimal for two people and possibly a small child. If you have a bigger group, you can request the rafts float down the river close together. We opted for the 2:15pm trip so we would not have to wake up early, the other option was 10am. I am not certain of the actual tour company that took us out to Martha Brae but everything ran smoothly.

The tour bus came to get us (more like 2:30) and there were about 6 other people already on board. We were the last pick up (and first drop off) so that was great. Once we got to Martha Brae we signed waivers and had a chance to tour Miss Martha’s garden, use the restroom, etc. A drink (fruit punch) is included with your ticket and there is a bar if you want to purchase drinks for the ride. There is also a souvenir shop on site. While floating down the river, there are vendors selling drinks, coconuts and souvenirs so you can always stop then.

The Raft Captains went for passengers to board and you are off! Our Raft Captain had a plethora of information for us! I learned that the water is fresh and you can even drink it. There is an underground filter and the water there services Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Falmouth and Negril. The ride is very peaceful and it is indeed a lazy river. You can choose to go in the water if you like. We did not opt to get in but our Raft Captain knew the areas where it was shallow and also where it was very deep. I did see one young lady in the water while we were on the river.

Our Raft Captain was also a great photographer. He even told us the good areas for photos. Our Raft Captain had no issues letting me steer the raft. The ride itself is between 60 and 90 minutes depending on how many times you stop and how slow or fast the Captain is going. At the end, they take your photo, which is an optional purchase. We were back off to the resort once everybody boarded the bus. I would definitely recommend it on your next trip to Jamaica and I would do it again. Hope you enjoy the pics!

There were a lot of stands and stops on the way down the river. SOme were abandoned. Our Raft Captain told us the cruise ships used to have bars set up along the river.

Steering the raft for a few minutes

The water felt great!
